Blog post #2 is a pretty short one. I’ve spent the time redoing the sprites in the game and making them more of my own. I even added a little gun shooting animation. It was pretty hard to figure out how I wanted to pose and key frame it. I hope y’all like the way it looks.
I also added in controller support. Right now I am still having issues where if you climb a ladder with the joystick you walk up the ladder instead of displaying a climbing animation. However, if you use the d-pad then there’s no issue. I’ve been rigging up animations as well. I am trying to make a running and gunning animation, but I am not an artist. So, it is really hard to do so. Doing anything with art takes me all day to do.
Another thing I noticed is that a lot of the sound effects I bought, mostly for place holders, are too harsh. Lots of people make this retro sound effects, or just regular sound effects, however it seems like they never seem to understand how they’re supposed to work. When you pick up a coin in Mario it’s a short soft but high pitched sound. It lasts under half a second. It also doesn’t have a trailing sound. This is so if you collect so many it’s easy on the ears. Even collecting bananas in DKC has a very soft quick sound. It’s not even high pitched, or loud. It’s kind of hard to hear. You subtly hear it so when you collect so many at once it’s not an overload of sounds. However, as you’ll see with this video, the sound effects that I bought for coin collecting are harsh. I’ve taken the time to try and soften them but honestly, I think I will just record some of my own.
Oh yeah, today I will show you some of what I have and the face lift the game has gone under.
Hope you like it! It’s still far from being finished, but I felt like I had enough to show off.
