What do you mean? You’re on it! Oh fine, I will go over the website. It has a odd history. The current Elvenmonk.net is just a personal blog and possibly converted into a portfolio later if I can be bothered to work on a WP theme to turn it from more than just a blog. In the olden days? ooh boy.
Long long ago on the internet, I mean like 2002, I started a website called Monk Inc. Monk Inc was to be the new IGN with anime! I was like 11. Being unable to create a posting system and being limited by free hosting limits I abandoned that. Then came the era of Elvenmonk.tk. Elvenmonk.tk was basically a eBaums World. I stole a lot of pictures and posted them. This era became popular at my school. I spent most of it learning HTML and creating splash screens and all sorts of horribly over designed web 1.0 website looks. It was awful.
During this point I decided I wanted to try to be the next Waterman. So, I learned how to get flash player working on my website and try to create flash movies. I didn’t think of how hard it would be to make a cartoon. I had the ideas but I couldn’t, still can’t, draw or animate. Then I decided to try to be my own 8bit Theater. Where I did not understand the concept of comics. No, for real, I didn’t. I made a Mario sprite comic where the first 10 comics were him moving. Like, it was awful. I couldn’t get the idea of a comic. Then I tried to make a Final Fantasy comic. Here I got the idea of a comic but I couldn’t decide if I wanted a comedy LOLRANDUMB or super cereal edgy comic.
With that failure I decided to try my foot at being the IGN+Anime site. After a year of failing to get a publishing system I learned about PHP. Then I went and got a hoster that had PHP and evolved. Here is where I picked up my dumb PHP programming style. Then I decided to try to replace ROMarket.TK because they went offline. This kind of took off a bit but my info was stolen from their site and new stuff was just random guesses.
As you can see the early years were all me ripping off and stealing. The sad fact is I haven’t even hit when I turned 14 and finally saved up to buy premium hosting. To back track a bit. I then got a copy of CuteNews and modified it to make my own posting system and ran with that for years. Like, until I switched to WordPress last year. I stopped updating that code in 2011. With my hacked together CuteNews I was able to create a basic portfolio. Then I made an actual comic site. Here Elvenmonk.tk was a webring. I hosted numerous sites for friends all under me and they created their content. Many of them bailed quick due to various reasons. Then I had Elvenmonk.tk as my portfolio and the backend was actually used for my CS1.6 server to speed up downloads and connecting. At this point is when I finally bought hosting.
Once I bought hosting I decided to take it more serious. I spent years doing nothing on the front end but instead dissecting code and creating my own backend stuff that never saw the light of day. I also made Kim’s, the ex lead artist of Elvenmonk Studios and my ex fiance, old portfolio website. After years of just stupid edgy blog posts we finally decided to convert it to Elvenmonk Studio’s official website. A whole lotta nothing happened from that.
That’s about it on the history of Elvenmonk.net. It’s been around for years under many names and has changed many ways. Now it is just a blog for me to learn and grow.
